Ghana’s Black Stars will continue their quest for a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup when they take on Chad on Thursday, September 4, at the Stade Olympique Maréchal Idriss Déby Itno.

Kick-off is set for 13:00 GMT.
The four-time African champions head into the clash in fine form, having recorded back-to-back wins over Chad and Madagascar in their previous fixtures. Those victories lifted Otto Addo’s side to the top of Group I with 15 points, placing them in a commanding position as the qualifiers approach the business end.

Chad, by contrast, have endured a miserable campaign. Les Sao have lost all six of their qualifying matches, scoring just once and conceding 15 goals. Their most recent qualifier ended in a narrow 1-0 defeat to Comoros in March, offering little consolation to a side already eliminated from contention. Friendly matches in June brought no respite, with a goalless draw and a 2-1 defeat to Kenya extending their winless run.

Head coach Raoul Savoy has leaned on experienced figures such as captain Ezechiel N’Douassel and forward Marius Mouandilmadji, but Chad’s defensive fragility—conceding an average of 2.5 goals per game—remains a major concern.

Ghana, meanwhile, have looked balanced and clinical. With Mohammed Kudus orchestrating play, Thomas Partey providing midfield stability, and Jordan Ayew enjoying a strong scoring run, the Black Stars have struck 15 goals in six matches, conceding just five.

Addo’s 24-man squad combines experience with new faces. Alongside Kudus, Partey, Ayew and Inaki Williams, there are recalls for Tariq Lamptey and opportunities for newcomers Derrick Arthur Kohn of Union Berlin and FC Nordsjaelland forward Caleb Yirenkyi.

Chad’s 24-man list includes defenders Ebenezer Ngardial and Yves Allarabaye, while midfielders Franky Tchaouna and Eric Mbangossoum are tasked with bringing stability. Up front, Haroun Tchaouna and Amine Hiver will hope to trouble Ghana’s backline, though chances are expected to be scarce.
