It was nothing short of a celebration at the end of the 2025 Upper Mid-South Zone Inter-Schools Sports Festival held at Mafi-Kumase Senior High Technical School (MAKSTEC).

The school excelled across various track and field events, bagging multiple medals and successfully defending their title as boys’ soccer champions.

The athletes’ outstanding performance brought immense pride to the entire school. From students and staff to management and old students. The victory reflects not only athletic excellence but also the strong unity and determination that define MAKSTEC.

This year's event held from Tuesday, July 1 to Monday, July 7, 2025 marked the 12th edition of the Upper Mid-South Zone Inter-Schools Sports Festival. And MAKSTEC had the special honor of hosting the event, turning its campus into the official festival village. Ten senior high schools from the zone took part, competing in various sports like athletics, badminton, basketball, cross-country, football, handball, netball, table tennis, and volleyball.

The festival was held under the theme “Learning Beyond the Classroom: Shaping Future Leaders Through School Sports.” It was graced by several respected guests, including Hon. Addison Dodzi Mornyuie (District Chief Executive for Central Tongu), Madam Happy Tsifokor (District Director of Education, Central Tongu), and Mr. Newman H. K. Dziedzoave (Zonal Chairman and Headmaster of Sogakope SHS), who also served as the festival chairman.

One of the most exciting moments of the competition was the final match of the boys’ football. After a goalless game, MAKSTEC beat Dorfor SHS (DORSEC) in a tense penalty shootout to defend their title and stay as the reigning zonal champions.

The boys’ team was led by Mr. Prosper Korsi Dorkenoo, popularly known as Coach Olla—who also teaches P.E. at the school and once coached Division One side Akatsi All Stars. With his experience, the team has now won back-to-back titles, following their victory over Sogakope SHS (SOGASCO) in the previous competition in 2023 at SOGASCO. “My boys were tactically good,” said Coach Olla after the win. “DORSEC gave us a good game, but our strategy, especially our passing and finishing, was what made the difference.”

It does appear that Mr. Dorkenoo is not planning to slow down anytime soon. “I want to leave a football legacy in MAKSTEC,” he said with confidence. “If we can win after just a week of preparation, then our sister schools should better watch out, we’re coming back even stronger.”

Frank Ali, Head of the Physical Education Department, also praised the team and all MAKSTEC athletes. “I’m really proud of how our students performed, especially with so little training time. Winning the soccer trophy again is a big deal. It clearly shows we are the best in the zone, whether people like it or not.”
