Why I snubbed Ghana to play Niger - Daniel Sosah

Ghanaian-born forward Daniel Sosah has revealed that he chose to represent Niger after being asked to pay for a spot in Ghana’s U-23 team.

In an interview with Accra’s Original FM, Sosah shared that in 2020, he expressed his desire to play for Ghana but was asked for money to secure a place in the squad.

“I had scored around 40 goals in Guinea at the time and had offers to represent Guinea, but I turned them down because I truly wanted to represent my country,” Sosah said.

“My agents contacted the Ghana FA, and after speaking with someone in Twi, they asked for money before allowing me to play for the U23 side,” he added.

Since switching his national allegiance, Sosah has become a key player for Niger, notably scoring in their 2-1 win over Ghana in a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Accra.

His statement adds to a growing list of allegations against the Ghana Football Association (GFA), with Najeeb Yakubu, another Ghanaian-born Niger player, accusing the GFA of dropping him from the Black Stars for refusing to join Dreams FC, a club owned by GFA President Kurt Okraku.
