Former Ghanaian international Augustine Ahinful has expressed concerns about a perceived air of arrogance surrounding the Black Stars following their disappointing exit from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The team needed a victory against Mozambique in their final Group B match but conceded two goals in added time, resulting in a 2-2 draw and elimination from the tournament.

The critical moment came when Andre Ayew committed a memorable penalty, converted by the Mambas in the 91st minute, putting them ahead 2-1. Goalkeeper Richard Ofori's unfortunate decision led to a corner, which was subsequently scored in the 94th minute, sealing Ghana's fate and concluding their AFCON campaign.

Reflecting on the overall dismal performance in Côte d’Ivoire, including a 2-1 loss to Cape Verde and a 2-2 draw against Egypt, Ahinful expressed his disappointment.

In an interview with Asempa FM, he remarked, "I've played for the Black Stars and worn the Ghana jersey before, and I don't think I will be the person who will want to see the Black Stars fail. I think that there is a bit of arrogance around the team."

Ahinful also emphasized the need for a national camping facility for the team in 2024, stating, "If the country doesn't have a national camping facility for the team, then we have to be ashamed of ourselves."

In response to the disappointing campaign, Chris Hughton has been relieved of his coaching duties, and the Ghana Football Association has established a committee tasked with recommending a new coach within the next three weeks.
