Ghana U-17 captain, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku registered his name on the scoresheet on Saturday afternoon to earn a draw for the team against Nigeria at the 2021 WAFU Zone B U-17 tournament.

The Black Starlets team played against the Eaglets at the Stade Kegue in Lome, Togo, in what is serving as the team’s first match of the ongoing tournament.

On the matchday, the Ghana team played very well in the first half but went into the break on level terms after failing to take their chances.

In the second half, the Nigeria U-17 team improved their game and threatened the Black Starlets goal on a few occasions.

After multiple attempts of asking, the Eaglets were awarded a penalty kick in the 83rd minute. Attacker Joseph Arumala stepped up to the task and converted nicely to put his team into the lead.

Unable to stay disciplined to protect the lead, the Nigerians gave away a penalty kick minutes later to hand the Ghana U-17 team a chance to restore parity.

Taking responsibility, Black Starlets captain Abdul Fatawu Issahaku scored from 12-yards to ensure the game ended in a draw at the end of proceedings.

In the team’s next match, Ghana is scheduled to take on their counterpart from Cote d’Ivoire.

Just a draw in that game will seal qualification for the Starlets to the semi-finals of this year’s WAFU Zone B U-17 tournament.
