ACTOR FRANCIS AGU GOES HOME

VETERAN actor, Francis Agu would be laid to rest today at his hometown at Ngwo, Enugu State.

The final journey of the Nollywood actor began on Tuesday at the O'jez Restaurant, National Stadium Complex, where a candle light night was held for him by the executive of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN).

Agu, 41, died barely two weeks ago at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), following a brief illness.

Chairman of burial committee, actress Clarion Chukwura, at a press briefing last week stated that her appointment as the head of the committee to man the affairs of the burial was because of the rumour making the rounds that Agu had since been buried on March 30. This development she said has thrown the whole artistic community into a state of confusion. "The purpose of this press conference is to iron out issues that has been lingering about that our colleague has been buried and to inform the general public about the necessary arrangements for the burial. We want to inform the public that Francis Agu is yet to be buried, right now his remains are still in LUTH till some necessary steps has been put in place for him to be buried".

A Christian wake followed the candle light procession at the O'jez restaurant, Surulere, Lagos on Tuesday.

Stars such as Kanayo .O. Kanayo, Amaka Igwe among others as well as comedians graced the wake.

His remains left Lagos for his hometown for another Christian wake at his family's residence at Ngwo, Enugu State, which would be followed by a church service. He will be interred later today.

Agu set up the Akwa Ibom chapter of the Actors' Guild of Nigeria, having most of the Akwa Ibom State University students as his members. He was one of the pioneers of Nollywood having starred in award television series Checkmate.
