Nene Aderibigbe, the mother of Nigerian singer Ayra Starr, has raised concerns about the heavy influence of social media on the younger generation.
She shared her thoughts on the impact of online platforms, noting that they have completely disrupted the natural order of things.
Aderibigbe stated that many young people no longer have their own independent thoughts, relying instead on the opinions and ideas of others found online. According to her, members of Gen Z are incredibly gifted, but they often fail to recognize their own unique abilities because social media distracts them.
She advised young people to take a step back and disconnect from their devices. She encouraged them to put their phones away for a few hours to engage in deep thinking or meditation, which would help them discover their true potential.
She said:
"Social media has just turned a lot of things upside down. They don’t have their own thinking again; it is only people’s thinking they use now."
"Take your time, drop your phone down for two, three hours, do mental note, put your head down, take a mental note or meditate."
