Social media has erupted into a series of conversations and arguments following the action of a US-based clergyman, Israel Ford, a pastor at LifeWorks Church in Wickliffe, Ohio, who has publicly announced his marriage to a second wife.
Ford shared the news via his Facebook page, posting a video recorded inside the church where he stood alongside his first wife, Lydia Ford, and his new spouse, Shakayla Ford.
In his announcement, Ford openly defied traditional Christian norms by stating that the belief a man should only have one wife is unbiblical. He acknowledged that his stance is highly unpopular and that many pastors avoid preaching it, but he made it clear that he is committed to following what he believes God has shown him rather than seeking human approval.
The pastor noted that he expects people might reject his decision and choose to distance themselves from him, but he remains unbothered by the potential fallout.
He said:
"I would like to introduce to the world, my second wife, Shakayla Ford!!!"
"As a nation we have been taught that a man should have one wife only. This is unbiblical."
"I understand that this is an unpopular truth that we have gotten away from and many Pastors will not preach."
"I have no plans to choose pleasing man over what God has revealed."
"People may not accept this and choose to disconnect, and that is ok! This life will be over soon, and we can all laugh about it in Heaven. Until then, God bless."
