Mautin Tairu, popularly known as Mr M, the manager of Nollywood star Uzor Arukwe, has explained why the actor frequently plays stereotypical or "igbotic" roles.
His explanation came after an X user, R. Ekpedeme, complained about the actor's recent character choices.
The user wrote, “Uzor needs to leave the igbotic roles for a while. I need a break from the shouting.”
Responding to the critique, Mr M stated that he understands the user's feelings and has felt the same way at times.
However, he noted that business decisions take precedence over personal preferences. He explained that these roles are most common on YouTube due to the platform and audience preference, noting that they adapted their strategies to the realities of Nollywood by tailoring their approach to different platforms.
He assured the fan that they will not see the actor playing such repetitive roles in cinema projects.
He wrote:
"I understand why you feel this way. As his manager, I’ve felt the same too at some point. However, business decisions take precedence over my personal preferences, and each platform has its own demands which we have to respond to. These roles are most common on YouTube because of the platform & audience preference. We adapted our strategies to the reality of Nollywood by adopting different strategies for different platforms. You won’t see him playing such repetitive 'igbotic roles' in cinema projects."
