Nollywood actress Kemi Afolabi has issued a strong warning to those who dismiss her health struggles because she does not look sick.
In a recent Instagram post, the Yoruba actress stated that she will be speaking up more and advocating for herself and other warriors chasing their health to function like normal human beings.
Afolabi expressed frustration at comments like "but you don't look sick," warning that anyone who has never gone to bed wondering if they will wake up the next day should never say that to her. She noted that she has nothing to prove to anyone and that opinions do not pay bills.
The movie star also stressed that she has handled many things she was not pleased with maturely in the past for the sake of peace, but will no longer do so, as it has been medically confirmed to have contributed to her health challenges.
She explained that trauma accelerates autoimmune disease and triggers inflammation that causes chronic lupus flares for her, adding that she is not operating on her own strength but by God's grace. She made it clear that she needs no one's pity and asked to be left alone in her own world.
She wrote:

Got nothing to prove to anyone. Opinions don't pay bills."

Kemi Afolabi is currently battling lupus, an incurable autoimmune disease where the body's immune system attacks its own organs and tissues.
She made her battle public in early 2022, during an emotional interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo. Recounting her experience before being diagnosed, she opened up on enduring a painful series of misdiagnoses at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital while dealing with excruciating joint pains that she described as more intense than childbirth.
The actress is currently undergoing strict treatment conditions, which includes avoiding bright light, which according to her, has affected her ability to work with standard film lighting.
