I Was Mocked For Getting Pregnant Out Of Wedlock By A Superstar – Sophia Momodu

Nigerian influencer and fashion mogul Sophia Momodu, has opened up about the stigma and ridicule she faced after getting pregnant out of wedlock for Afrobeats star Davido.

She recounted her experience while speaking at Columbia University ahead of the United Nations General Assembly High Level Week.

The first babymama of Davido, revealed that as a pastor's daughter, she was mocked when she became pregnant outside marriage, and the experience was overwhelming. She said that for the longest time, she lacked a voice, despite being famous and popular.

She explained that the negativity and stigma drowned out her own voice, and she wanted her experience to be understood rather than turned into entertainment. She also recalled how an aunt advised her to remain silent about the issue, noting that it was considered a topic Black women were not expected to discuss publicly.

She said:
"I am a pastor's daughter who got pregnant out of wedlock by a global superstar. And I was mocked. It was crázy. And I had to find my strength in the midst of all that. And for the longest time, I didn't have a voice. I was famous, I was popular, but I didn't have a voice."
