Biodun Stephen Recounts Five-year Anger Over Children’s Estate Ordeal

Nollywood filmmaker and producer, Biodun Stephen, has recounted how her children were allegedly stopped at an estate gate on their way to school over unpaid estate dues. The YouTube producer described the incident as a source of anger for her five years later.

Stephen made the disclosure while speaking in a recent video on her Instagram page, recalling that her children had missed their school bus and were being taken to school in an Uber when they were stopped at the estate gate.

According to the filmmaker, she was informed that her children could not proceed because she was allegedly owing estate dues, a situation she said came as a surprise because she was unaware of any outstanding payment.

“What has it got to do with my kids?”
She said she became particularly upset because she had passed through the estate gate herself earlier that morning without being stopped, adding that the Uber carrying her children had also been allowed through the previous night.

Stephen said the situation made her feel that her children had been deliberately singled out for embarrassment.

“I felt like I was targeted for an embarrassment,” she said.

The filmmaker further alleged that the estate chairman had identified the children as hers and instructed security personnel to stop them at the gate.

She said she was furious when she arrived at the scene and learned that her children had been left waiting for about 15 minutes.

“My kids were at the gate for about 15 minutes. I was mad, furious. I was shouting, I was upset,” Stephen recounted.

According to her, the children were eventually allowed to leave after she paid the disputed estate fees, despite having previously received information that the dues had been settled.

Stephen said the estate chairman later apologised over the incident, but she admitted that she has struggled to let go of the anger it caused her.

“He could have said, ‘I will talk to their mother when I see them,’ but he said they should stop my children,” she said.

Five years after the incident, Stephen said she still finds herself becoming angry whenever she sees the chairman.

“I’ve literally been saying, ‘God, help me let it go,’ but I can’t. I’m struggling,” she added.

The filmmaker subsequently asked her followers to share similar experiences of incidents they have found difficult to forgive or move past.
