I Call Passengers Into Buses to Survive, Not Because I Want To – Sunday Afolabi

Veteran Nollywood actor Sunday Afolabi has broken his silence following a viral video that showed him calling passengers into a commercial minibus, popularly known as 'Korope.'

Speaking in a recent interview with actress Biola Bayo, the host of the Talk to B Show, the actor explained the circumstances that led to his current situation, revealing how financial hardship and frequent accidents disrupted his career and family life.

Afolabi disclosed that he relocated to Badagry to build a home within his limited budget, but the distance from the city center disconnected him from the film industry.

He recalled losing his Nissan Quest and being unable to afford repairs for almost two years, eventually selling it for N180,000 to settle debts. He then bought a motorcycle, but suffered multiple accidents, including one that left him hospitalized for nearly two weeks.

"If I call myself a jack of all trades and master of all, there's no mistake in it, because what I hate most in my life is to beg for food. I'll rather do any legitimate job," he said.

Addressing the viral video of him being a commercial bus driver, Afolabi admitted that the public sympathy made him feel bad about how he was portrayed, but he remains open to honest labour.

He appealed for help with accommodation and a car, noting that he would rather drive for Uber than continue calling passengers into a bus.

"If I can get accommodation help, it will help me get acting jobs… If I can also get the help of a good car, Toyota brand or anyone, I wouldn't mind, just a good car that I can use for Uber. I'll stop calling passengers into a minibus and strategically position myself as an Uber driver… There's no shame in it," he said.
