Nollywood actor and filmmaker Mofe Duncan has paid an emotional tribute to his late friend and colleague, award-winning producer and director Dimbo Atiya, who passed away on Thursday, August 6.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Duncan described the loss as devastating, revealing that Atiya's death has tested his faith following a difficult year of personal losses.
Duncan recounted their over-a-decade-long friendship, crediting Atiya for being instrumental in his career through memorable roles in series such as Sons of the Caliphate, Halita, The Plan, and The Rishantes.
He described Atiya as a champion of the entertainment industry and noted that he has learned skills from him that he now applies to his acting, scriptwriting, and directing.
He wrote:
"My truth… this has been over a decade long friendship with @dimboba or 'Boba' as I always called him."
"From Sons Of The Caliphate Season 1 & 2 to Halita Season 2 to The Plan to Rishante's Season 1 & 2 to Wrath And Revenge: A Sons Of The Caliphate story… @dimboba has been instrumental in my career with memorable characters and shows that fans still relate me too. Truly the entertainment industry has lost a Champion."
"It's been a hard year for me personally, with death testing my faith, and Dimbo's passing has pushed that faith to the limit, but we must forge ahead until we no longer can."
"Dimbo's legacy resonates through so many of us… and I've learned so much from Boba, skills I use in my acting and now my script writing & directing."
"Thank you Boba… Thank you dear brother & friend… and I'm so sorry you left us so soon. So so sorry."
"Dimbo Atiya."
The Nigerian Voice recalls that Atiya, a native of Nasarawa State, was a prominent figure in Nollywood, known for celebrating northern Nigerian culture in his storytelling.
He won the Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Award for Best Africa Magic Original Drama Series in 2022 for Halita. He studied at the New York Film Academy and produced over 500 television episodes and five feature films throughout his career.
