Kumasi, Sept. 6, 2019 - Please permit this Writer to do away with the legitimate epithet of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in this historical feature, because of the peculiar subject under discussion.

This Writer believes in the principle that The Pope of the Roman Catholic Church does no wrong. The Asantehene Otumfuo does no wrong. The President of Ghana does no wrong. This is because they are institutions and they seldom have the freedom to act in their personal capacities. They are expected to comply with procedures and methods established long before they attained their status.

To start with, Nana Addo Dankwa has decided to step into the murky past of National Liberation Movement (NLM); Northern People's Party (NPP); United Party (UP); Progress Party (PP) and New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Nana Addo Dankwa's artifice and duplicity are directed towards replacing truth with falsehood in Ghana's struggle for independence on 6th March 1957 story. He berated the contributions of major characters while escalating the contributions of his favorites.

On 11 May 1956, Lennox Boyd, Secretary of State for The Colonies, told the House of Commons that the Gold Coast would be granted independence on 6th March 1957 on condition that an election would be held to elect new members of Parliament, who would vote for independence or otherwise.

Lennox Boyd's conditionality was informed by conditions prevailing in the Gold Coast. He expressed the fear that there could be inter-ethnic fighting in the country. The tenure of the Convention People's Party (CPP) had not ended but the opposition parties wanted its term terminated and fresh elections held. They also demanded a federal system of government.

The opposition parties threatened to make the country ungovernable. There were skirmishes between supporters of CPP and the opposition parties, especially in the Ashanti Region. This Writer one day encountered UP Action Troopers when he was returning to school (Government Boys' School) from the Kumasi Central Market, where he had gone to collect his lunch pack from his mother.

When he got to the gate where vehicles entered the market, near the Zongo Police Station, he encountered UP Action Troopers, who had returned from Anwomaso, a suburb of of Kumasi, where they had gone to fortify themselves spiritually.

They were in a Bedford wooden truck and led by UP campaign vehicle, which we the children called "awu-awu" because of the horn they used. The truck stopped at the gate and the troopers jumped down. They picked soda bottles from the truck, shook it and threw it up and it would explode.

While they were doing that some of them were shouting: "Wa - wa-ji-wa-wa!" And the others would respond: "Wa-wa!" This Writer ran away from there and did not stop until he got to school.

Permit this Writer to ask a few questions. Under what condition do Akans wear "Kuntunkuni"? Is it when they are happy or when they are aggrieved? Why did the opposition party members, including Opanin Kofi Boadi, a cocoa farmer, and father of this Writer, go to meet Lennox Boyd at the Kumasi Airport in "Kuntunkuni"? The answer is because they were not happy with the political situation in the country and they wanted Lennox Boyd to appreciate their disapproval of the political situation in the country.

On the day Lennox Boyd made the announcement at the House of Commons, British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), world's foremost broadcaster, interviewed, Mr K. A. Gbedemah, Finance Minister of Gold Coast.

Mr Gbedemah welcomed Lennox Boyd's announcement. He said: "I know enough to be able to say that the Prime Minister (Dr Kwame Nkrumah) has been planning that if election will be the only solution to the present situation, then he would go to the country as soon as possible."

Every intelligent being with a sense of discernment can see that the opposition parties had become a stumbling block to the attainment of independence and not facilitators.

It is, therefore, disingenuous for anybody to use shenanigans to put out an artifice to pervert the truth. Truth stands! Kwame Nkrumah is the founder of the state of Ghana. This is the truth the whole and nothing but the truth. Long Live Our Beloved Country, Ghana! (RED ROOSTER SERIES)
