Media coalition on the Right to Information bill is unmoved by comments from the Speaker of Parliament, asking Civil Society Organisations to cease mounting pressure on the House concerning the two-decade-old bill.
The Speaker, Prof. Mike Oquaye in his closing remarks as the House was going on Christmas break said, the impression being created that the MPs are not committed to passing the bill is wrong.
“This is fallacious and I will be glad if the media will seriously correct this misimpression,” he said.

He added that the CSOs should “leave parliament alone” to work on the RTII bill which he hopes will be passed by February 2019.
But in a spirited reply to the third in command of the nation, Sulemana Braimah who is a leader of the RTI coalition and also the Executive Director of the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), noted that the House will face more pressure from them in 2019.
“So far…what has happened is an overt diplomacy…what we can call pressure, will start in 20019 when Parliament resumes. What I want to assure is that we are not going to back off of getting the RTI bill passed…,” he said.
