MON, 24 DEC 2018 LISTEN

The Voiceless Media has commenced a series of review of the various interests being expressed by individuals within the NPP in the Northern Region in the build up to the up-coming Parliamentary Primaries in the area.

This very exercise zero in on the Tolon Constituency this week.

TOLON CONSTITUENCY
The Tolon constituency is currently one of the constituencies that the NPP won in the last election. Its current MP is Hon Wahab Suhuyini. He annexed the seat from the NDC after his unsuccessful bid in the 2008 but won in the 2012 Parliamentary election. He retained the seat for the NPP in 2016. He pulled 21,782 votes as against the main contestant of the NDC Mr AbdulRazak Umar who got 20, 725 .

Currently, there are 4 known names eyeing the seat to represent the NPP for the Constituency. The incumbent MP , Hon Wahabu Suhuyini and three others. It is feared that the number will increase and could change the dynamics. For now, this is what the Voiceless has gathered concerning the suitors for the Tolon seat.

Hon Wahabu Suhuyini was the NPP DCE for the Tolon/Kunbungu District in the President Kufour's era from January 2005 to January 2009. It is widely held that he won the seat in the 2012 Parliamentary election as a result of his good track record during his tenure as the DCE in the past. He was touted for bringing development to the District. Whilst some think he should be retained to consolidate the seat for the NPP, others think that he had contributed his bid and should give way to fresh hands.

The next person whose name has come up is Mr Alhassan Yakubu Tali also known as Nawaana. He has strategically remained silent in the public eye but Voiceless has gathered that he is secretly in touch with the electorates. He is currently the Deputy Managing Director at the Agric Development Bank. He was chairman of the Germany branch of the NPP in the past and twice contested the NPP primaries in the Tolon constituency without success. In the last Parliamentary primaries he was beaten by 21 votes by the incumbent MP, a situation he would try to reverse to his favor.

Mr Habib Iddrisu, a Deputy enclave director at the Ghana Free Zones Board at the Tema GFZB enclave is the next person. He was the NPP Parliamentary Candidate for the Sagnarigu constituency in Tamale (2016) but his name has popped up in the Tolon constituency as a possible Contestant. He is said to have made some donations to the Constitiency lately, hoping that He benefits form the primaries.

Dr Alhassan Anamzoya is the next person whose activities is visible in the Tolon constituency. He is currently a Senior lecturer at the University of Ghana Legon and also a Board member at the National Service Secretariat. His supporters think that he can ably represent the constituency in Parliament given his academic achievement.

The list is likely to increase as other persons according to information available to The Voiceless Media habour intentions but are limited by the directive of the Party to place a ban on open campaigning.

It is expected that campaigns in this constituency would be based on issues and not personal attacks. The Voiceless will bring to our readers further details from the constituency in subsequent works.
