The December issue of the New African Magazine listed individuals who toil away, often against impossible odds, to bring change and hope in often unglamorous environments in Africa. One of such individuals is Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, the President of Ghana.
As Co-chair of the UN'S Eminent Advocates for the Sustainable Development Goals, saw him in the area of innovation in Africa, especially Ghana. He inherited a shattered economy and lack of confidence in government. Over the twenty three months that he has been in office,, there has been a change in the management of the Ghanaian economy. The change from macro economic instability to macro economic stability. Under his administration the rising debt to GDP ratio to a declining debt to GDP ratio. A change from taxation, which was undermining production in our economy. Our weak banking system has been changed to a strong better supervised and capitalised banking system.
At our Ports, a paperless process is now taking place to avoid manual process of clearing goods with its attendant of corruption. Dumsor is now a thing of the past, and access to education which was a big problem to the poor, has now been changed by the introduction of free SHS education. The Teacher Training and Nursing Training allowance which was abolished by the NDC government has been restored. Also the unemployment situation in the country is being solved with the establishment of NABCO corps, where the rising graduate unemployment is reducing the graduate unemployment.
The Agriculture sector has been improved due to the policy of the government. The Planting for Food and Jobs has employed a lot of the youth and revitalised the Agriculture sector. Galamsey activities which was destroying our forest, soil and water bodies has been regulated, and our dying railway system is being re-energised. The government have been lauded in its decision to deliver essential medical supplies through drones in transporting medical supplies to rural areas, which is essential to Ghana's Emergency Health Service Delivery System. It's one of the largest and most advanced medical drone delivery network.
Ghanaians are proud and confident that, the policies and initiatives being implemented by President Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo and the NPP government will put Ghana onto the path of progress and prosperity.
