Court Charges Two Over Forgery of Insurance Documents

Two persons have been granted bail by an Accra Circuit Court in the sum of GH¢ 30,000.00 each with two sureties each for allegedly forging insurance receipts, stickers and cover notes.

Emmanuel Afful Manu, the printer and Michael Abedi, the driver, pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to commit crime and forgery, and will make their next appearance on December 20.

Police Chief Inspector Francis Tassan told the Court presided over by Madam Ruby Naa Aryeetey, that Mr. James Acorlor, the prosecution witness is an insurance claims investigator with Star Assurance Company Limited in Accra.

The Prosecution said Manu is a printing press operator resident at Dome whilst Abedi, lives at Alajo all suburbs of Accra.

The Prosecution said, for some time, Star Assurance Company had been recording fake insurance claims from unsuspecting customers and decided to trace the source of the insurance cover notes used to put in those false claims.

He said the company made a formal complaint with the police with samples of the documents.

He said during investigations Abedi was arrested with quantities of the fake insurance cover notes in his attempt to supply the prosecution witness with them.

The Prosecution said a search in his room also revealed large quantities of various vehicle documents all suspected to have been forged.

He said Abedi then mentioned Manu as his source of supply and led police to his arrest.

Chief Inspector Tassan said in Manu's caution statement he admitted having a printing machine which he used to print those forged documents with Abedi's consent, whereas Abedi admitted altering the documents.

He said the two were then charged after further investigations.
