Nine Suspects Remanded After Dodowa Land Guard Clashes

Following violent clahes amid gun battles at the Shai Osudoku district hospital, the Dodowa District Magistrate Court has remanded nine suspects who were rounded up by the police.

The nine were convicted for offences such as conspiracy to commit a crime, aiding and abetting, and the commission of a crime.

It would be recalled that there were bloody clashes at the Dodowa District Hospital on Wednesday afternoon after a gunfight ensued between land guards and landowners leading to several injuries.

In an interview with Citi News, Divisional Crime Officer for Dodowa, Superintendent Reuben Dugah, said the perpetrators will not be spared.

“We are giving it all the necessary attention, we are very serious with it because we cannot continue to contain lawlessness in this country and for that matter within our jurisdiction here, if you have ownership to a land and someone is stepping on the land unlawfully, the law courts are there, you don't take the law into your hands, we cannot accept that and we will not allow that to go,” he said.

Some victims of the brawl sustained machete wounds after a fierce clash between two factions and were rushed to the hospital for treatment.

While authorities of the hospital were busily providing treatment to the wounded, the irate groups stormed the facility to continue with their scuffle.

Medical Superintendent of the Dodowa District Hospital, Dr. Ken Brightson, who confirmed the incident on the Citi Breakfast Show said the scene became more chaotic when he insisted on giving medical care to some victims in a vehicle who were being taken to the police station to write a statement.

'I stopped a car moving some of the victims away to save the lives of the victims because I have a responsibility of keeping them alive before police report. A policewoman was accompanying them to the police station so they go and write their statement. So she had to call for reinforcement. As soon as the team arrived on our premises, it became chaotic. They started fighting. Some of the wounded victims also engaged in the fight.”
