Kumasi, Nov. 8, GNA - The Ashanti Regional branch of the Ghana Union of Professional Photographers has advised its members to exhibit a high sense of professionalism in their work.
This, the Union said would enable members to receive the due recognition and respect they deserved and would also help the profession play its proper role in national development.
Mr Manela Martin Donkor, Chairman of the Ashanti Regional branch of the Union said this at a press conference on the topic: "Unprofessional Photography Practice, organized by the regional branch of the Union in Kumasi on Tuesday.
He said the important role photography played in every aspect of life in the areas of education; social life, security, recreation and health could not be overlooked.
Mr Donkor stressed the need for the government to make more credit facilities available at the informal sector so that the self-employed especially photographers could assess them to improve on their performance.
He indicated that such credit facilities should bee channeled through well-established unionized groups to ensure its effective and proper utilization and repayment.
The Union appealed to the district assemblies in the Region to offer the needed assistance to their district branches so that members could embark on efficient service delivery.
The Regional Chairman urged the media to promote the activities of the Union to bring non-members into the fold to enhance sanity in the profession. He called on the unemployed youth to offer themselves to be trained as professional photographers, adding that there were more opportunities for girls in the profession, especially in the area of portrait photography.
Mr Donkor indicated that the Union was ready to co-operate with any organizations or individuals who sought to ensure that there was sanity in the photo-industry.
