Two land guards were on Monday, August 27, 2018 sustained gunshot wounds in Tuobodom in the Techiman North District in Brong Ahafo region by unidentified persons in an attempt to protect a disputed parcel of land under construction by another faction.

Sources say the land guards, wielding short guns, visited the site between Techiman – Tuobodom road and told the people who developing the land to stop working on it as it belongs to them, but the owner, who was also at the site produced documents to claim legitimate ownership.

According to Techiman Municipal Police Command source, the two are currently receiving treatment at the Techiman Holy Family Hospital amidst tight security, while investigation is under way.

The land-guards wearing military uniforms, according to the reports, were deployed by a prominent business tycoon (name withheld), who claimed ownership, to demolish structures in the area without a court order.

The demolition exercise by the hired land-guards has rendered many residents in the area homeless.

The menace of the land guards in the area is getting out of hand, with the security agencies appearing ineffective in its control at the disputed area declared as a ‘security zone’ by the Techiman North District Security Council, prohibiting all developers until further notice.

The level of destruction caused the land guards has shocked residents, who accused them and their paid masters of insensitivity.

Reports say land guards in some instances exchange gunfire with police officers dispatched to maintain law and other.

Developers in Tuobodom, where chieftaincy disputes are rife, are worried over the activities of land guards who had devised various means to extort money from developers.
