The boat, carrying about eleven people traveling from Mawuvi kofe to Dzagbeshi kofe, capsized on the Oti river yesterday Sunday 4th Fabruary, 2018 when they were returning from church service at Dzagbeshi kofe in the Krachi East Municipal of Volta Region.
The Municipal National Disaster Management Organization NADMO boss, Mr. Dasievor Jacob explained to Christiana Ativi to Oti radio news that, they were able to retrieved all the nine dead bodies from the river namely, Joyce Atali 16 years, Bensah Atali 21 years, Edward Atali 18 years, Dormenyo Atali 2 years, Amedzuwoe Akor 22 years, the rest are: Lucy Tsatsu 19 years, Xolali Tsatsu 18 years, Mkpebi Maabo 30 years and Adwoa Mkpebu 19 years.
According to one of the victims who survived, the accident accrued few minutes after 2pm yesterday and the wind storm at that was so strong on the river therefore, the canoe was carried away till it finally hit a stand in the river living 9 dead among them were two pregnant women.
Mr Dasievor therefore, advised the general public especially those crossing the river to always put on their life jacket and also aviod over loading.
He added that, the bodies had been sent to Worawora government hospital morgue awaiting autopsy.
