Duncan Williams’ Wife Storms CAFM

27.07.2005 LISTEN
By Chronicle

Hundreds of worshippers at last Sunday's morning service of the popular Christian Action Faith Ministry (CAFM), held their breadth in trepidation, when the enstranged wife of the colourful, trendy founding Bishop of the church, Mrs. Francesca Duncan-Williams, swept unannounced into their midst, three weeks after her husband had publicly read a script announcing a firm parting of ways between the couple.

Nicholas Duncan-William, 47, provoked a swift rebuke across the media and a section of the clergy for deciding to give up on his marriage vows after two years of trying and admonishing others not to follow his footsteps. There were hints that his wife may have been blamed. It was against this background that Mrs. Duncan-William's visit to the church last Sunday was received. Initial reports were that Mrs. Duncan-Williams was denied permission to speak to the congregation even though she was allowed to be ushered to the front pew where she normally sits as Mama Francesca, wife of the controversially installed 'Archbishop of CAFM. She was warmly received by the congregation.

Chronicle could not get any of the lawyers representing her husband, Messrs Ace Ankomah of Bentsi-Enchil, Letsa & Co and Messrs Brookman Amissah, representing the former first lady of CAFM, to go on record as to the status of the divorce initiated by Nicholas Duncan-Williams. Speaking to this reporter on the issue, Bishop James Saah and Mr. Nat Lomo-Mainoo, members of the church, who are in charge of Voice Of Inspiration, vehemently denied any scuffle, but confirmed that Mama Francisca attended the church and took her usual front seat. According to the Resident pastor, "Yes she was in church. She did not try to make any speech. In fact, she sat by me and we conversed after the church.

There was no point in time that she indicated to speak. I introduced her to the church and the church acknowledged her as usual. When the Chronicle asked in what capacity she was introduced to the congregation, Bishop Saah directed this reporter to his representation, Mr. Lomo-Mainoo, who said he could not remember how Mama Francisca was introduced. The Resident Pastor could not provide details of Mama Francisca, let alone her place of abode, as the Chronicle gathered she did not go to her former matrimonial home. Mr. Lomo-Mainoo told this paper that, "she was there and I saw her smiling. I didn't see any indication that she wanted to speak. She sat next to Bishop James Saah and there was no scuffle," he said. On whether he suspects any crisis and how the church would handle it, the gentle, soft-spoken director in charge of voice of inspiration, said, God has his own way of handling issues. It would be recalled that a month ago, the Archbishop, the Archbishop of CAFM and his wife Mama Francisca broke their sacred vows.

The founder of the CAFM, whose divorce decision was broken to the congregation and which read "Dear Church, family and friends, after deep and prayerful consideration, I am sorry to announce that it has become expedient to go our separate ways to remain as brother and sister in Christ." Archbishop Duncan-Williams described the decision as a painful one to make. The famous speaker was at the receiving end of various flaks from his colleague clergymen. Efforts to reach him proved futile as he was reported to be on a retreat.
