Only Thieves Are Afraid Of Special Prosecutor–-Koku

Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress, Koku Anyidoho says President Nana Akufo-Addo deserves commendation for spearheading and signing into law, the Special Prosecutor’s Bill.

According to him, only thieves will be scared of the law, saying the law is not meant for only politicians; rather, it is a law that will deal with criminals from all sectors of national life including the media, judiciary and even people in the private sector.

“Nobody is afraid of anything; if you are given a job to do as a public servant and you decide to go and steal, know that we don’t fear whose ox is gored because wrong is wrong, crime is crime and criminals must be punished”, Koku said in response to whether he his party people were scared of the law.

According to him, the Special Prosecutor will not have his own special court, neither will he be the judge in his own cause; he would be operating within the same justice system so if we still have corrupt judges, corrupt bailiffs and corrupt court clerks, the effect of the SP wouldn’t amount to much.

Koku Anyidoho also reminded appointees of the current government that the SP Law will remain law even after they have left power hence the need for them to tread cautiously.

“If this law was brought in good faith, we welcome it, if it was brought with ill-motives, however then they should be reminded that when in 2020 they go out of power, we shall use the same law to prosecute them," he noted.

Mr. Anyidoho was commenting on the passage of the law and subsequent presidential assent given on Tuesday this week, on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem with Kofi Adoma Nwanwani.

With the President’s assent, all the legal requirements have been completed for the establishment of the Office of the Special Prosecutor.
