Should Ghana's Political Parties Not Collaborate To Make Our Nation A Better Place For All Its People?

Should Ghana's Political Parties Not Collaborate To Make Our Nation A Better Place For All Its People?

Whenever I have been to a funeral, the thought that all of us will eventually make the final journey that the deceased person we are mourning has just undertaken, crosses my mind.

I guess that is also something that most people experience too. That thought is invariably followed immediately by the observation that on the scale of geological time, human life really is indeed fleeting - for which reason one must focus on working hard to achieve one's life's goals whatever they are: and be as fair and reasonable as it is humanly possible to be to all one comes across during the short journey called life.

Thus, as I sat with the other mourners who had come to mourn with the family and friends of a popular local preacher, the late Pastor Bonney of McCarthy Hill - may he rest in peace - yesterday afternoon, I resolved yet again to dedicate the remainder of my life to setting up a media entity that will be a force for good in Ghanaian society, and champion the cause of those of our fellow citizens who happen to find themselves in our nation's base-of-the-pyramid demographic.

The question is: If life is so short, why then do our ruling elites spend so much time bickering amongst themselves and undermining each other - instead of collaborating to make our homeland Ghana a much better place for all its people: whatever strata of Ghanaian society they belong to?

Doubtless, no discerning Ghanaian wants the world of Ghanaian politics to become a mutual admiration society - as that would undermine our democratic system. However, all the political parties in our country and their respective memberships need to think of the well-being of the enterprise Ghana at all material times - and, rather than constantly harping on contentious and divisive issues, focus instead on how they can collaborate to make our country a better place for all its people.
