Agona East MP Sensitizes Constituents On Breast Cancer

The incidence of breast cancer has assumed serious dimensions with many calling for comprehensive action to curtail the threat it poses to the well being of women in the country.

In line with her regular engagements with her constituents to improve on their livelihoods, a professional nutritionist with reputable records in public health, food and nutrition, Obaatanpa Maame Pokua Sawyer, MP for Agona East met, has taken up the responsibility of supporting her constituents to overcome the heat threat.

Obaatampa Sawyer has met with the Women in her constituency to sensitize them on the threat posed by Breast Cancer . This was part of the observance of "world breast cancer awareness month October".

In all, some 500 women from various parts of the constituency were present at the ceremony.

Obaatampa Sawyer noted that, "The event was so necessary especially when breast cancer is increasingly ruining the lives of mothers in our part of the world most especially the rural inhabitants."

She also used the opportunity to empathize with those diagnosed with cancer , and as a nutritionist, stressed on the need to take a lot of fresh vegetables and fruits more often as an alternative to mitigate the situation. Above all , she emphatically stated that, "SUGAR is NOT NOT NOT for the affected persons," insisting that, "vegetables like kontomere and also some fresh fruits including banana , mango, pineapple, are a major panacea to breast cancer since the disease is curable" .

The event was very interactive, permitting the women to raise their concerns in relation to cancer, pledging her full support to reduce the rate of breast cancer cases in her constituency through her speciality in food , nutrition and public health. The joy was overwhelming as usual, and the women expressed their delight at her interaction with her.
