Accra, June 2, GNA - The Ghana Wildlife Society (GWS) and the Wildlife Clubs of Ghana (WCG), a junior wing of the society, have expressed readiness to celebrate the World Environment Day (WED) in Accra on June 5.
The day is celebrated every year by the United Nations Environment Programme to raise global awareness on positive environmental action to protect mother nature as well as make people, government and organisations responsible to saving the environment.
This year's United Nations WED would be celebrated on the theme: "Join the Race to Make the World a Better Place.'
Ms Louisa Kabobah, a Conservation Education Officer at the Ghana Wildlife Society, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Accra, quoted Margaret Mead, an American Cultural Anthropologist, saying; 'We won't have a society if we destroy the environment.'
She said this slogan carried a clear message and also sent signals to people across the globe to join forces in making the world a better place to live in.
Ms Kabobah said GWS and WCG were joining the global voice in the fight to make the environment safer and better, adding; 'we believe that the responsibility of this campaign lies on all of us to uphold and defend our environment.'
The wildlife clubs will on Saturday, June 4, embark on a clean-up exercise at the Mensah Guinea Beach, popularly known as 'Bola Beach' as part of activities to celebrate this year's World Environment Day to whip interest of the general public on the need to conserve the water resources.
