The Mpraeso Police command have arrested Kofi Asante, the Assemblyman for New Oworobong Kwahu in the Eastern Region, for allegedly killing 10 cattle belonging to some Fulani herdsmen in the area.

The people of Oworobong led by the assembly man launched an operation on Wednesday dubbed: “Fulanis must leave our land” to get rid of all Fulani cattle on Oworobong lands.

They claimed that the presence of the herdsmen and their cattle in the area pose threats to their farms and properties.

Citi News' Eastern Regional Correspondent, Appiah Kubi reported that the Assemblyman was picked up after 10 were found dead in the town.

“On Wednesday, some 10 cows were found dead in some forests in Oworobong and the incident is believed to have been perpetrated by the Assembly member.”

He said the Police also refused to grant the Assemblyman bail despite an intervention by the District Chief Executive for the area.

Appiah Kubi also said, residents of the area have vowed to do everything possible to get the Assemblyman released.

Sack Fulanis or we do it ourselves
Residents of Kwahu in the Eastern Region in April 2016 gave government and their chiefs a one month ultimatum to remove all Fulani herdsmen from the area or they will be forced to do it themselves.

According to them, the destructive activities of the herdsmen are affecting them physically and economically.

Residents in those towns have complained that the Fulanis and their cattle have been destroying their crops and farmlands and have subsequently asked government to evict them or face their wrath.
