Kpachelo(N/R), May 11, GNA - A six-unit classroom block with ancillary facilities has been constructed for the Kpachelo Primary School in the Savelugu/Nanton Municipality (S/NM) to improve pupils' enrolment, retention and quality of teaching and learning in the community.

It was constructed by the Regional Advisory Information and Network Systems (RAINS), a Tamale-based non-governmental organisation (NGO), with support from the Canadian Feed The Children (CFTC) and IPSOS Foundation.

The NGOs' intervention was necessitated by the decision of the S/NM to close down the school after its (S/NM) Works Department declared the previous structure accommodating the pupils as unsafe for occupation as a result of damages to its foundation.

Alhaji Mohammed Haroun, Northern Regional Director of Education, who spoke during the inauguration of the new six-unit classroom block at Kpachelo, pledged to provide adequate dual desks for the school to enhance teaching and learning.

Alhaji Haroun commended RAINS and its partners for partnering with government to improve education outcomes in the region.

Mr Abdulai Alhassan, S/NM Chief Executive said the Assembly would continue to partner with NGOs to bring development to its jurisdiction.

He appealed to the youth to stay away from violence during this year's elections.

Mr Hardi Tijani, Executive Director of RAINS said the construction of the facility was also to sustain the gains it had made as a result of its implementation of education and livelihood empowerment programmes in the Kpachelo community and the S/NM as a whole.

Madam Gail Black, Vice President of CFTC underscored the importance of education in the lives of individuals calling on all to ensure that their children attain education.
