MARGARET Ansei aka Magoo – parliamentary candidate for the Suhum constituency of the Eastern Region on the ticket of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) – who was nominated by President John Mahama as the new Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the area, has been rejected by the assembly members.
Former Ashanti Regional Coordinator of LESDEP, Margaret Ansei, who is the darling girl of the Chief of Staff, was nominated to replace Samuel Fletcher Kwabi, after he had tended in his resignation letter December last year after following his defeat in the NDC parliamentary primary.
Ms Margret Ansei failed to secure the two-thirds majority votes to be endorsed as the municipal chief executive. Out of 41 assembly members who cast their votes, 23 voted 'Yes' for her endorsement while 18 voted against her.
The outgoing Eastern Regional Minister, Antwi Boasiako Sekyere, in an address, expressed worry about the way the assembly members voted against the president's nominee on her first attempt.
He however, appealed to them to endorse Madam Ansei during the second poll which is scheduled for the next few days.
.
The incumbent Member of Parliament for Suhum, Frederick Opare Ansah, was among other dignities in attendance.
The exercise was conducted and supervised by the Suhum Municipal Electoral Officer, Mr. Mensah.
