Tamale, Dec 21, GNA - A book written to preserve the Dagomba customs about marriage as well as guide the youth to make good decisions when choosing their life-long partners has been launched.
The 40-page book entitled: 'Traditional Dagomba Marriage Forms and Customs', describes the forms and customs regarding marriage as practised by Dagombas in northern Ghana and was launched in Tamale at the weekend.
Alhaji Iddrisu Adam Yoggu, a retired Educationist and former Mayor of Tamale Metropolis, who wrote the book, said it was his modest contribution towards the preservation and protection of Dagomba customs in their purest forms as regards marriage.
Alhaji Adam Yoggu said 'it is when we know our heritage that we can make necessary adjustments since culture is dynamic and subject to change', adding that, the aim of the book was to guard against the adulteration of the Dagomba marriage system.
Mr Alhassan Mohammed Sorogudoo, District Chief Executive for Sagnarigu, who represented the Regional Minister, described the book as relevant since it would help especially the youth to follow the right customs regarding relationships leading to marriage.
Kasuli - Lana (Chief of Kasuli) Yakubu Bukari, who chaired the launch, asked heads of educational institutions to patronize the book and make it available to their pupils and students to educate them on issues regarding marriage according to the Dagomba tradition.
