Stopping Anas’s videos In Court is Crime against Democracy in the name of Democracy-C.G.I.N

The Coalition for Ghana’s Independence Now sees the attempt by some justices to stop the airing of the alleged corruption evidence by Anas through a court injunction as a major case of discrimination against the people. Without the participation of the masses there is no democracy.

We see Anas’ investigative work as the make or break point in Ghana’s democratic process. The three arms of government, including the top leaders, must give back the power to decide to the ordinary people or the centre will stop holding.

Where was the court when previous Anas videos were shown on national television? Why did they not complain then? And does the clause they are citing in our constitution imply that the people at the judiciary are more important than those who were previously exposed, jailed and lost their jobs because of Anas’s investigations?

The clause in the 1992 constitution that says investigations surrounding the judiciary should be treated differently from those concerning ordinary people, is undemocratic and unacceptable. If there were to be a national referendum, this discriminatory clause would be removed without hesitation.

The Coalition is calling on all well meaning Ghanaians to defend our democracy; we should all be serious about the way our democracy is sidelining the mass. Our so called democracy only recognizes the masses when it is time for election and voting.

The Coalition is calling a stop to the use of Rule of Lawyers instead of Rule of Law when the so-called leaders or big men are caught; this is what we refer to as using democracy to commit crimes against democracy in the name of democracy.

The laws that protect the three arms of government are entrenched and untouchable. Until democratic powers and process is given back to it owners Ghana is sitting on a time bomb.
