Presbyterian Church Ordains Ministers

The Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) has ordained 14 ministerial probationers at the Covenant Congregation, Adentan-Accra, with a challenge to fulfil their ministry in humility.

Preaching on the theme: "My Ordination 2015," Reverend Professor Joseph Obiri Yeboah, President, Trinity Theological Seminary, admonished the newly-ordained ministers not to abuse their positions, but instead humble themselves before God and their fellow men.

“Your first calling is to model Jesus Christ, sacrifice and suffer for the glory of God to be seen and felt by all,” he said.

Rev Yeboah also reminded them of their responsibility as newly-ordained ministers, to proclaim and teach God’s word in the church, as well as administer the sacrament that would lead members particularly their congregants, to lead lives worthy of emulation.

“And before this can be achieved you need not to hold on to material wealth, knowledge and high social class standards as they are the four hindrances to your living a humble life,” he said.

He urged the newly ordained ministers to preach the message of peace to the people, to ensure that they continued to have confidence in the church.

The President of the Trinity Theological Seminary, advised the ministers to make their churches a place of comfort, where people, who are in state of fear in their lives, could go to seek peace, and called for special impartation and additional spiritual powers for them.

The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Reverend Professor Emmanuel Martey, who officiated the ordination service, asked the new ministers to selflessly contribute their quota to make the various congregations in the church dynamic.

“You have the task of bringing all members of your congregation into fellowship and helping to educate them to lead sound moral lives.”

He asked them to pray always and seek the face of God, which according to him, was the only way to have a complete communion with God, and called on the church to support them in prayers.

Rev Mrs Grace Akua Lartey, a newly-ordained minister, speaking to the Ghana News Agency, advised colleagues to be filled with the Holy Spirit so that they could walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, as redeeming the time.

“This is the time we need to be filled with the Holy Spirit so that we can walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, redeeming the time as is the theme of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana,” she said.

The ordained ministers are Rev Mrs Florence Kookaley Alabie, Rev Solomon Quaye, Rev Ofosu Gyeabour Adarkwa, Rev Kennedy Kwame Owiredu, Rev Millicent Naa Adai Sac Key, Rev Albert Baffoe Koomson and Rev Mrs Grace Akua Lartey.

The rest are Rev Joseph Jerry Nii Quaye, Rev Henry Nti Boakye, Rev Seth Ampofo, Rev Rowena Adzo Fiagbenu, Rev Mrs Mavis Adzokor Tawiah, Rev Richard Asumah and Rev Joseph Agyaaku Ofosu.
