Aggreko to compensate 26 farmers

Aggreko plc, a Scottish power firm, has prepared a compensation package for 26 farmers whose crops were affected when the company acquired their land for the construction of a power plant at Esiama in the Ellembelle District.

Nkroful (W/R), July 6, GNA - Aggreko plc, a Scottish power firm, has prepared a compensation package for 26 farmers whose crops were affected when the company acquired their land for the construction of a power plant at Esiama in the Ellembelle District.

The Country Manager of Aggreko, Mr. Jason De Carteret, told the Ghana News Agency, at the sidelines of a stakeholders meeting in Esiama, that the firm contracted an independent valuer from the land Valuation Board, to undertake valuation of crops on the farms.

He said the valuer had presented his report and the company had accepted his recommendation and would pay appreciable compensation package to them.

He entreated the farmers to cooperate with them to ensure the successful completion of the project on schedule, and pledged to employ 80 per cent of the indigenes when their operations start.

The District Chief Executive of Ellembelle, Mr. Daniel Kamatu Eshun, urged the affected farmers to channel their complaints to the authorities concerned if they were not satisfied with the compensation package, instead of engaging in any unacceptable behaviours.

He advised the youth to acquire the necessary employable skills before the power firm would begin operations, in order to secure jobs in the company.
