APR 16, 2015 LISTEN

Francis Thomas Anderson, a 29-year-old graphic designer with E-volution Company at Osu, an event organising company, yesterday lost his life when he attempted to prevent a six-member robbery gang from entering his house at Kwashieman, a suburb of Accra.

The deceased, according to police report, prevented the armed robbers - who had earlier robbed two houses including the house of a sports journalist - and he (designer) was shot in the chest.

Anderson, police report indicated, was in the house with his wife who was pregnant for eight months, when the armed robbers entered their two-bedroom storey building apartment at Santa Maria, near Kwashieman, at about 12:30 am.

They shot Anderson in the chest and stabbed him in the hand as well.

However, his pregnant wife, who is also a banker, upon seeing the armed robbers, allegedly locked herself up in one of the rooms.

Two other houses - one being occupied by Mr Michael Oteng Adjei, a sports journalist - were also attacked.

Items taken in the attack included laptops, jewelleries, unspecified amounts of money, mobile phones and other valuables.

Confirming the attack to DAILY GUIDE, Superintendent Susana Adjei, Sowutuom District Police Commander, said police received information about the attack around 2am yesterday that a gang of armed men numbering about six had attacked some residents at Santa Maria around Regg's Spot.

When police personnel got to the scene, the armed men had already fled but Francis Thomas Anderson was discovered lying in a pool of blood in the kitchen of their two-bedroom storey building dead.

Information gathered indicated that when Anderson saw the armed men, he attempted to prevent them from entering his apartment by blocking the main door leading to the hall.

However, the armed men, using hammer, pinch bar and their feet, allegedly managed to break into the main hall and out of rage, they attacked Anderson.

In what seemed to be a prolonged struggle, Anderson purportedly dashed into his kitchen to pick a knife and managed to stab one of the armed men.

The gang then shot him in the chest before they proceeded with their operation, leaving the victim at the kitchen.

Anderson's pregnant wife, who had then locked herself in the room, only discovered that the husband had been shot after the armed men had fled.

The body has since been deposited at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital awaiting autopsy.

Meanwhile, information gathered by the paper indicated that the deceased moved into the house a month ago after marrying his wife in December last year.

Plans were reportedly underway for the couple to seal their marriage with a church wedding in December this year.

Some residents also claimed they could not hear any noise of the attack because most residents in the area had their generators on as a result of power outage in the area.
