Ghana football legend Osei Kofi has shockingly revealed that he was not aware he held all-time Ghana record of seven tournament goals until Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan equaled it with his epic goal against Algeria last Friday.

Asamoah Gyan's goal for the Black Stars against the Dessert Warriors of Algeria at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations means the current talisman has seven tournament goals equaling Osei Kofi's long-standing goal record.

But  the  former  Black Stars player, speaking on Asempa Fm Ultimate Sports Show on Tuesday revealed that he has no knowledge of the accolade being attributed to him as a person.

“To be honest I didn't know I had made any record. I got to know after he Asamoah Gyan equaled it with his goal against Algeria."I was able to achieve that as a playmaker and not as a striker and was unaware that such important achievement will be recorded".

“If he has equaled my record then I am happy for him but l played only three Nations cups but with Gyan's age l wish he score more goals and sets a new record”, he added

He later on congratulated Asamoah Gyan for equaling the record and encouraged him to do more for mother Ghana.

The former triple Olympian made three Nations Cup Appearances in the Ghana colours from 1963, 1965 and 1968. He was a joint top scorer in the 1965 Africa Cup of Nations tournament held in Tunis, which lead Ghana to win the tournament for a second time in Tunisia.

He was the third highest scorer in the 1968 Africa Cup of Nations. Osei Kofi was also known as  the 'wizard dribbler' because of his ball dribbling skills. Story by Ghana/Asempa Sports/Frank Agyam
