Let's Also Respect Kwaw Kese's Rights

"ALL PERSONS SHALL BE EQUAL BEFORE THE LAW."

(Ghana's 1992 Constitution, Article 17, Clause 1).

This article is a serious reaction to the common calls on the Independent Judiciary to free Kwaw Kesse, and the criticisms of Ghana's Anti-Narcotics Law and Rules of Court. Some musicians and music-loving Ghanaians have started the #FreeKwawKesseMovement but I believe that they did so primarily because Kwaw Kesse is a so called celebrity or a renowned rapper.

Oh Ghana, what about those poor and jobless young men who have been incarcerated for narcotic offences? Are they lesser or third class Ghanaians? The title of this article makes it clear that the Law is above all Ghanaians including even the President of Ghana, the Speaker of Parliament and the Chief Justice.

Those so called and self-imposed celebrities who criticise the law concerned and Rules of Court do so in a mischievous, baseless and crude manner. They are entitled to their various opinions, but were they criticising the law concerned and Rules of Court when these convicted many narcotic offenders? Oh how simplistic their criticisms are?

Sorry for asking these rhetorical questions though. Lastly, Nelson Mandela said that "A nation should not be judged by how it treats its highest citizens, but its lowest ones." I need not interpret this powerful but fair quote because it is self-explanatory. Let us be fair and obey our Constitution and various laws, for this facilitates national progress!
