HIV/ AIDS Patients Cautioned Against Unscrupulous Men Of God

Ghanaians have been cautioned to desist from the culture of resorting to prophets and pastors who claim to have a cure for HIV/AIDS.

An Occupational Health Physician Dr Ayisi Addo gave the caution at a forum to disseminate the 2013 HIV Sentinel Surveillance and National HIV/AIDS Prevalence estimates by the Ghana Health Service in Accra.

'Although it is good to pray but we should try as much as possible to seek medical attention especially HIV/AIDS', he said.

He expressed worry at the alarming rate some HIV/AIDS patient have refused to seek medical attention due to false claims on the part of some religious men who claim to have the antidote for AIDs .

According to him although the power of God could not be underestimated, it was just prudent to seek medical attention since it was the same God that had endowed Doctors with knowledge to deal with the disease.

He has therefore called for an aggressive educational drive to help sensitize about the need to seek medical attention than resorting to such unscrupulous men of God to reduce the practice of such an unhealthy culture.

He said although the National HIV/AIDS prevalence rate is at 1.3 percent, there was still more to be done to ensure that Ghana achieves a free HIV/AIDS status in the coming years.

A linear trend analysis of Ghana's prevalence since 2000 shows a firmly declining epidemic a record which is commendable.
