The Rector, Imo State Polytechnic, Umuagwo, Rev. Dr. Whence Madu, has applauded the giant strides of the Rt. Hon. Benjamin Uwajumogu's led Imo State House of Assembly, describing them as unprecedented.
The Rector, who was speaking at the Speaker's office when his Management team paid him a courtesy visit, commended the State House of Assembly for its role in ensuring that citizens of the state benefit maximally from the state government's dividends of democracy through passage of quality laws which have impacted positively on the lives of the people.
He stressed that the current free education policy enjoyed in all levels in the state institutions came through the instrumentality of favourable laws of the State Assembly, maintaining that the progress recorded so far in the state was as a result of the strong synergy between the executive and the legislature and called on the Honourable members to sustain the tempo.
Rev. Dr. Whence, further eulogized the charismatic leadership approach of the Speaker in ensuring the stability and progress of the House, pointing out that such feat was unprecedented in the age-long history of the State House of Assembly.
The Rev. Fr. also pledged the readiness of the Polytechnic to partner closely with the State House of Assembly to chart a better course for the citizens of the state, while praying God to guide and protect the future political ambitions of the Speaker to enable him continue his good works for the people of the state. Rt. Hon.
Responding, the Speaker, welcomed the Management Staff of the institution and commended the Rector for giving the Polytechnic a face lift in the areas of infrastructural development, as well as, quality teaching and learning within his short period of time in office.
He also thanked the Rector for citing a campus of the institution at Umunakanu in Ehime Mbano Local Government area, maintaining that such gesture would guarantee window of opportunities to citizens of the State in securing job opportunities and admission for courses of their choice.
The Speaker who further stressed the importance of education in the life of every Child, Stated that it was in keeping to that philosophy that the Imo State House of Assembly, being the first in the country took the bull by the horn in giving an accelerative passage to the free education bill up to tertiary level, which is being enjoyed by the poorest of the poor and other citizens of the State at all levels.
