Stop The Unnecessary Hatred And Insults On The Black Stars Players

Stop The Unnecessary Hatred And Insults On The Black Stars Players
06.06.2014 LISTEN

In the past few days, there is a trend that is ongoing on social media that after several observations, I think must be stopped because it doesn't really paint a good picture of Ghanaians. Why are some Ghanaians fond of raining insults on celebrities and some issues that do not even call for insults?

There are several instances of the subject matter but I'm only having a case study or discussion of Black Stars defender Samuel Inkoom's page on Facebook.

Samuel Inkoom's page on Facebook has received a lot unnecessary insulting comments recently especially after the international friendly match between Ghana and the Netherlands.

It looks as if every post or Facebook update Inkoom put up amounts to serious insults from some Ghanaian fans who have liked his page. It is good to note that others who comment on his page or wall like myself do make constructive criticisms and advice him to correct his mistakes next time around. However, there are many more that only come to attack his personality and threaten him unnecessarily for updating us on what's happening in the Black Stars training camp for the 2014 world cup.

My question is; what is wrong with Inkoom patriotically deciding to inform us with pictures of what's ongoing in the Ghana camp after a hard day's training?

I personally see nothing wrong with it. It's not as if all Inkoom cares about is 'facebooking' as people might call it. I believe his main focus is on training and also helping Ghana achieve something reputable in the world and that 'facebooking' is a secondly matter.

I know many of those speaking negative about him and insulting him wished they well in his shoes right now. Why would you want to hate your fellow Ghanaian without any tangible reason? Instead of making good and constructive criticisms, people think insulting him will put him on track.

From afar, there are things you the spectator or viewer might see in Inkoom's play that he might not see. Therefore, the wisest thing to do is draw his attention to it on what he should improve upon the next time and not resort to insults.

It's about time this barbaric behavior on social media is stopped. There are some journalists who because their favourite or preferred player wasn't called up to the Black Stars, resort to bringing down the hard earned reputable of some players they feel shouldn't have been called for selection.

This I think is a demonstration of unprofessionalism at the highest level. After all, there are journalists who feel free to disclose the football clubs and political parties they support, and therefore are seen and heard making bias and unfair analysis of issues pertaining to clubs and parties of their interest.

We all must be very careful about our choice of words.

At this period of time, it's not about the player you like or don't like. The most important thing is, they are all Ghanaians and are going to represent all of us in the upcoming world cup in Brazil. The best we can do for them now is to support them in prayers to avoid any injuries and also hope the favour of God abound towards them as they seek to make our nation proud.

There is no need insulting any of them or calling for the exit of any of them. The coach has already presented his final 23-man squad to FIFA and nothing can be done to it except in the case of injuries.

God bless our homeland Ghana. Let's all live in peace and harmony as one people. Football is a sport that brings all of us together and I hope this year's world cup wouldn't be an exception.

In conclusion, on behalf of all Ghanaians who would love to watch the entire 2014 world cup matches on TV, I would like to make this heartfelt appeal to the staff and workers of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Volta River Authority (VRA) and Grid Company (GRIDCO), to ensure that there is a drastic reduction in power cuts. If possible, there shouldn't be any power outages between the hours of 4pm and 11pm Ghana time that the matches are going to be televised live. Let's enjoy this year's world cup because it takes place only once every 4 years. Thanks so much for taking heed to this heartfelt appeal.
