John Akologo Tia – Cuba and Akua Sena Dansua – Germany

About five envoys appointed by President John Mahama to represent Ghana in various diplomatic missions will soon take up their positions following their acceptance by their host countries.

Seven months after their nominations, DAILY GUIDE learnt that five 'agreemor', a document in diplomatic circles indicating acceptance of the nominees by their host countries, have arrived and the ambassador designates would soon leave the country to take up their duties.

Following DAILY GUIDE's report that the ambassadors were stranded because seven months after their nominations they were yet to take up their postings, a source close to government said five of the about 30 ambassadors and high commissioners had received their agreemor and that they would soon be sworn in by the President.

Under the Vienna Convention, the host country has up to six months to communicate its acceptance or rejection of an ambassadorial nominee.

Among the five people were former Minister of Youth & Sports, Akua Sena Dansua who is going to Germany; former Upper West Regional Minister, Mahmoud Khalid for Mali and former Information Minister, John Akologu Tia who is headed for Cuba.

Most of the Ghana's foreign missions had been with no ambassadors for almost one year since all envoys were recalled in October 2013, making decision taking at the highest level difficult.

So far, two out of the 25 or so persons who were nominated have received their letters of credence and proceeded to their assigned countries to work.

They are former Director of Monitoring and Evaluation at the Presidency, Dr Tony Aidoo who has assumed his position as Ghana's Ambassador to the Netherlands with responsibility for The Hague and his colleague former Eastern Regional Minister, Victor Emmanuel Smith who is now Ghana's High Commissioner to King James Court in London in the United Kingdom.
