Catholic University Promotes Creative Arts In Brong Ahafo Senior High Schools

The Innovation Lab of the Catholic University has launched an initiative to discover and develop creative arts in senior high schools of Brong Ahafo region. The programme is aimed at discovering and developing the talents of students in the creative arts (writing, dancing, comedy, singing and drawing). The initiative underscores the determination of the Catholic University to support the development of Ghana creative industries.

The innovation lab plans to implement the programme in eight senior high schools before the end of 2014. The team has so far implemented the programme in Bechem Presec, Twene Amanfo SHS, Techiman SHS and Sunyani SHS. The programme will be implemented in Dormaa SHS, Berekum SHS, Drobo SHS and Acherensua SHS between May 2014 and September 2014.

Mr Edward Twum Anane, the Innovation Lab Coordinator, was the inspirational speaker at the four events so far held. He used the occasion to urge the students to use the creativity to solve the challenges of their communities.

He also encouraged those who are fortunate to have creative arts talents to consider the gifts as immeasurable source of wealth. He stressed that the most important assets Ghana have are not gold, cocoa or oil, but the creativity of its people.

A creative arts team is formed in each School after the programme implementation. The 8 Senior High school Creative Arts teams will compete in the final event in November 2014. The winners will get prizes and certificates.

A similar competition has been created for the Junior High schools in the region to promote reading and writing. The creative writing competition is opened to all JHS and SHS students.
