Treasurer & Head of Foreign Missions, Port Harcourt chamber of commerce, Mrs Stella Agada has saidit is unfortunate that women are the most untapped resources especially in our country, but noting that there is no limit to what women can do or attain as entrepreneurs as they have an inner drive that supports them the moment they realize there potentials and what they truly possess.
Mrs Agada made this assertion while speaking as guest lecturer at a public lecture put together by the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria, (APWEN) to celebrate this year's International Women's day held at the Nigeria Society of Engineers secretariat in Port Harcourt.
In a lecture titled “ENTREPRENEURSHIP THE WAY FORWARD”, she said in a competitive world seemingly dominated by men there is need for women to further network, proof themselves and build a spirit of enterprise.
Churning out some basics she pointed out that the ability to identify business opportunities; ability to identify the skill you are good in and how to take advantage of them; the ability to focus on why opportunities will work rather than why they won't; the urge to control one's destiny rather than labouring under other people's control; ability to obtain new and better ways of doing things; tendency to improve yourself as business grows; ability to obtain new information and use it; ability to evaluate risk on new ventures (profitability, success and failure);ability to notice changes in the industry and exploit them; ability to evaluate new markets and exploit them; experience in chosen type of business among others are key components that can help drive entrepreneurial success.
Mrs Agada who is Nigerian Desk Officer for both CBC London and London Nigeria Business Networking Forumalso noted that The problem most of us have is the inability to know who we are; she said what anyone thinks of us is not important but what we should concern ourselves with is the knowledge of who we are and what we are capable of doing.
According to her, Port Harcourt chamber of commerce has been a worthy ally in supporting businesses in the city and mentoring anyone irrespective of gender, creed or affiliation to succeed. According to her PHCCIMA has been a ardent supporter of Women in business with evidence in the number of women doing exceptionally well as its members
