By Raphael Apetorgbor

AB and David, a business Law firm, has opened its ultra-modern West Africa Head office in Accra to consolidate it cross border-border West Africa practice and better serve clients.

The new office is located in Accra at No. 8 Dr. Isert Road, North Ridge and is designed and equipped to the same standard as that of the top law firms in the United Kingdom and the United States of America.

Speaking at the event, Mrs. Georgina Theodora Woode, Chief Justice tasked solicitors to adapt to changes in the legal fraternity, and be able to respond to the needs of their clients both local and international.

She said the practice of law has moved beyond the court room and the filling of writs of summons, and the changing times demand the introduction of a special practice of law.

Mrs. Justice Wood said the increasing importance of arbitration and dispute resolution in the African context is a reflection of the global growth in international business.

She, therefore, wondered why some lawyers cannot co-operate to help clients resolve non-contentious issues, instead of running to the court room with every little issue which leads to the case backlog at the court.

The Chief Justice commended AB and David for setting the pace as one of the very few Ghanaian law firms which operates at such high international standards, and urged other law firms to aspire to such standards, and raise the image of the legal profession and practice in Ghana.

Mr. David Ofosu-Dorte, Executive Chairman of AB and David, promised to continue to provide quality service to the legal firm's clients across the sub region.

He said their focus is simple: to ensure businesses and projects succeed in Africa by helping them minimize the risks associated with doing business in Africa.

Mr. Ofosu-Dorte adds that AB and David extensive experience gained from working with several businesses, public sector agencies, finance houses, multinational lenders, international organisations and individuals is an excellent resource that helps their clients do business in the complex Africa environment.

“Our ability to reduce the bureaucracy and minimize your project and investment risk is priceless value we give to our clients” he stated.

He disclosed that AB and David have associate law firms in thirty African countries and regularly work with leading law firms from all over the world.

Present were Mrs. Marietta Brew Appiah Oppong, Minister of Justice and Attorney-General, Nana Afari, the immediate past President of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) and Lieutenant General Joseph Henry Smith the former Minister for Defence.

In a related development AB and David has become the first Africa law firm to secure the Law Society of England and Wales' International law management quality mark,'Lexcel' according to a publication by the Law Society of England and Wales.

Lexcel is a recognized international accredited scheme for law firms and in-house legal departments, which is only awarded to those who meet the highest management and customer care standard.

Lexcel accredited practices undergo ongoing rigorous independent assessment every year to ensure they maintain standards of excellence.

David Ofosu-Dorte, Senior Partner at A-B & David said: "While we are proud to have secured Lexcel, it is our clients and staf who are the main beneficiaries. They can be assured that they way we manage the practice has their interests at heart and runs efficiently. There is a lot of choice in the domestic and international legal services market, but being Lexcel accredited demonstrates our commitment to client care and best practice."

Nicholas Fluck, President of the Law Society said: "Gaining and maintaing Lexcel is no mean feat. As business becomes increasingly global so does our profession. Law firms and their clients demand the same high standards of practice and client care wherever they are in the world and the Lexcel accreditation provides this assurance.
