Like the Tonight Show in America, Kwaku Sintim Misa's Thank God Is Friday (TGIF) is one followed by many Ghanaians. One thing I admire about the show is how he celebrates Ghanaians who have excelled in different fields.
One of my favorite TGIF editions as a young man was the interview of Danny White. The late Danny White was the founder of Whitesys Ltd. Whitesys Ltd. created the websites of many corporations' including the Ghana Police Service.
What was so intriguing about Danny White's second interview was the announcement that he had leukemia, and his condition was terminal.
Danny was such a fine man, had good looks. Apart from his success story, he was diagnosed of Cancer of the bone marrow, also known as Leukemia.
Danny White's education was in-depth and shocking; in fact he had gone a step further to be on the show with a lady doctor in one of the leading hospitals in the country on setting up a bone marrow transplant unit.
The typical Ghanaian noise was made about his work and people pledged their support, but Danny after that interview did not live long, and passed away shortly after the interview.
I still remember the shock to that news and even so, at this time when we have another young life taken away suddenly.
Not just that, we have had some few people disappointed by the typical Ghanaian noise, either by individuals or corporations.
Quite recent was Ghanaian afro-pop artist, Rebecca Acheampong, popularly known as Becca.
Becca initiated a children's ball for the needy, which attracted so many pledges from organizations in the country yet when it came to honoring the pledges, it turned sour.
Why do I talk about Danny White today?
It is a caution to the foundation which is all smiles around the corner. The usual buzz to this started enthusiastically after the passing of the late broadcaster, Komla Dumor, with Publicist of the family and subsequently a website created to inform followers of the late broadcaster.
A visit to the website of DWIB leukemia trust official website (www.dwib.org) showed that much is not being done since its latest news update was in 2008. This signifies total neglect of the work Danny started.
The late Danny Whyte died in 2007 in London shortly after the launch the organization.
May the soul of the late Komla Dumor rest in peace, and just as we lay him to rest this Saturday, may I remind the board on his yet to be formed foundation good luck, that they do live up to the life of the BBC broadcaster.
I also remind the members on the board of the late Danny White and Ivor Burford, who a advanced a global campaign on the slogan, "What greater gift can one human being give to another than the gift of life. I am of African decent. You can save my life. Your generosity as a bone marrow or stem cell donor could help me win this battle with leukemia." that their course lives on deserves a boost.
