Photo of the Week: Sabotage! Galamsey operators destroy railway line

Neglected by government, sabotaged by 'galamsey' operations, Obuasi-Dunkwa railway line could be a permanent relic of Ghana's once glorious railway industry.

The Ghana Railway Company's OBuasi-Dunkwa stretch which links Takoradi Habour through Tarkwa, has been destroyed by the illegal miners popularly called 'galamsey' operators at Adansi Ampunyasi in the Adansi South District of the Ashanti Region.

The stretch is a part of the second phase of the reconstruction of the Eastern and Western railway lines announced by president John Mahama, Tuesday, when he briefed the media to mark his first anniversary in office.
