Ga Mantse Accuser's House To Be Auctioned

The Accra Fast Track High Court which found Emmanuel Tackie Yarboi, head of the Ga Dzasetse, guilty of defaming the Ga Mantse, King Tackie Tawiah III, has agreed for his house to be sold to defray part of the GH¢500,000 damages awarded against him for the libel suit.

This was after the defendant failed to pay the amount, compelling the king to file an application for reserve price to get the property of the defendant and sell it to defray part of the damages ordered by the court.

The house of the defendant was fixed at GH¢150,000 and the trial judge, Justice Edward Asante, gave the green light for it to be sold.

Charles Zwennes, counsel for the king, was represented by Nita Steel while Bram Larbi, counsel for Yarboi, was represented by Egya Kwadwo.

Mr. Tackie Yarboi was dragged to court after he refused to retract an allegation that King Tackie Tawiah III had forged a letter in which former President Mills supposedly endorsed him as the legitimate king of the Gas. Yarboi also refused to apologise.

The king, who felt his reputation had been damaged, was left with no choice than to sue Yarboi who tried to portray him as someone who was not honest and was willing to go to any extent to ensure that he remained king of the Gas.

The defendant failed to substantiate his allegations in court; hence the decision went against him.

The verdict has been seen by many of the king's supporters as something which has restored his reputation as he had consistently denied the allegation of forging a document emanating from the presidency.

King Tackie Tawiah initially had called for damages to a tune of 6 million Ghana cedis.

The court however compensated him with an award of damages equalling GH¢500,000.
