The New Patriotic Party aspiring Member of Parliament for Odododiodoo Victor Okaikoi is set to relinquish his US citizenship Thursday.
The aspiring MP confirmed this to Myjoyonline.com in an interview.
He said he will be taken through brief procedures at the US Embassy in Accra before his US Citizenship will be renounced.
Victor Okaikoi's decision to relinquish his US Citizenship ahead of the 2012 December elections is in accordance with the country's laws.
MP for Bawku Central Adamu Dramani is currently serving a two-year jail term after he was found guilty of being a UK citizen at the time he contested and won the 2008 elections.
He was convicted for false declaration of office, perjury and deceiving a public officer.
The NPP aspiring Member of Parliament for Odododiodoo said he is guided by the unfortunate incident of his colleague.
Okaikoi acquired the US Citizenship shortly after he escaped from the Usher Fort Prison in 1979 where he was confined after being accused by the erstwhile AFRC military government of an attempted coup.
He won the NPP primaries and will be attempting to wrest the seat from the ruling NDC on whose ticket Nii Lantey Vanderpuye hopes to retain the seat for the NDC.
