I Am Suing Nana Konadu Over Judges Murder

Something terrible befell our beloved country Ghana 30 years ago. It is an incident which some people would want to go away whilst to some of us there is the need for justice to be served in order to bring proper closure to that horrible occurrence.

Every year a remembrance service is conducted to sooth the pains of the children, family members and friends of the four victims whilst the main architect of the crime is still walking free on the streets of Accra. Ghana is a country of laws; therefore, it is simply not good enough for lawyers to celebrate the memory of the victims whilst not a single person has taken it upon himself/herself to seek justice for the victims.

Last week marked the 30th anniversary of the murder of the three High Court judges and a retired army officer who were abducted from their homes and heinously murdered in terrible cold blood.

I am referring to Mr. Justice Fred Poku Sarkodie, Mrs. Justice Cecilia Koranteng-Addow, and Mr. Justice Kwadwo Agyei Agyepong who were brutally murdered together with a retired army officer, Major Sam Acquah.

It would be recalled that on June 30, 1992 during the height of the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) regime, Mr. Justice Fred Poku Sarkodie, Mrs. Justice Cecilia Koranteng-Addow, Mr. Justice Kwadwo Agyei Agyepong and Major Sam Acquah were seized during the curfew hours and brutally murdered at the Bundase Military Range in Accra. The bodies of the four victims were later found to have been doused with petrol and set ablaze.

This incident broke the country's heart and the public outcry and general condemnation prompted the PNDC to appoint a Special Investigative Board headed by the late Justice Azu Crabbe, a former Chief Justice, to investigate and bring the perpetrators to book.

The Board which went to work immediately after it was constituted made some startling revelations which led to the prosecution of Joachim Amartey Kwei, a member of the PNDC, Lance Corporal Samuel Amedeka, Samuel Michael Senyah, Johnny Dzandu and one Tekpor who were soldiers. The architects of the atrocious crime with the exception of Amedeka, who escaped from lawful custody, were all executed by firing squad.

But one sticking point was left hanging by the Board and Ghanaians in general, and it looks as if it's been hanging 30 years long. During the painful investigation by Azu Crabbe's Board it was revealed in the final report that the five perpetrators of the crime namely Joachim Amartey Kwei, Lance Corporal Samuel Amedeka, Samuel Michael Senyah, Johnny Dzandu and Tekpor used a Fiat Compagnola Jeep to abduct the victims.

And the most important thing to note is that, that vehicle which was used to abduct the victims was parked at the walled house of Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings. And to make matters even more mind boggling the keys to the vehicle was firmly resting in the bedroom of Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings.

Therefore, it would take you a century to convince my little sister's child of 10 years that Joachim Amartey Kwei, Lance Corporal Samuel Amedeka, Samuel Michael Senyah, Johnny Dzandu and Tekpor went and stole the keys of the Fiat Compagnola Jeep from Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings' bedroom without her knowledge and used the keys to drive the vehicle away from her compound without her knowledge to do the abductions and killings without her knowledge.

Somebody give me a break! There is no way the key to the vehicle being used by Nana Konadu; the First Lady at the time will be stolen from her well guarded bedroom and the vehicle driven from her walled house under the watchful eyes of her heavy security personnel without her knowledge.

Nana Konadu knows everything about the abduction and murder of the three High Court judges and the retired army officer. She is the one who coordinated this terrible crime. And whilst four of the perpetrators have been gassed, Nana Konadu has not been made to pay for her crimes/sins and continues to walk free on the streets of Ghana.

I have therefore, taken it upon myself as a citizen of Ghana to sue Nana Konadu in court. I will want her to come to court and tell Ghanaians what she knows about the dreadful incident and the role she may have played in it.

It has been 30 long years and Ghanaians need to know everything about the incident before we finally put it to bed. Nana Konadu will be made to face the music after we have proven in court her role in that reprehensible incident. I have instructed my lawyers to institute a legal suit against Nana Konadu at the High Court, for her to come and answer to the charges.
